WCAI to Hold a Webinar on Passive Intermodulation

With the explosion of wireless data services and the increasing need for bandwidth, antenna sharing and collocated transmitters, the performance and quality of wireless base stations are becoming increasingly important. One parameter that is very sensitive to wireless network performance is passive intermodulation (PIM).

WCAI will hold a webinar to explain the causes of PIM in the network, including an in-depth look at how to best perform PIM measurements. Preventive measures to avoid PIM will be shared along with a summary of common specifications and standards. Additionally, field test results not previously published will be shown.

The webinar, Passive Intermodulation – Cause and Prevention in Wireless Networks, will be held on July 21 at 4pm ET. Moderated by Chris Horne of LBA Group, the event will feature Ray Butler, Vice President - Base Station Antenna Products and Development at WCAI member Commscope. This webinar is free of charge and open to all. Register Now!

Don’t Miss Free WCAI Webinar on Equipment and Design Considerations for 700 MHz Buildouts

What does it really take to build a 700 MHz network?

Certainly, engineering a network at 700 MHz involves a number of design and transmission considerations. Once the propagation and interference studies are complete, and the licenses applied for, then the real work begins.

What active and passive components are needed to build a complete base station through which customers connect with the network? What about the backhaul? Will it be microwave radio that operators own, or leased circuits over copper or fiber cable? Then, what elements are needed in the core switching network to manage the various services that operators may be planning?

Once a bill of materials for the complete network is compiled, from which suppliers can operators purchase the needed equipment? And what capital investment levels must operators budget to get the network up and running?

Join us at 4pm ET on July 13 for an in-depth discussion led by Scott McClure, head of TESSCO Technologies’ Broadband Radio Products Business Unit. This webinar is free of charge and open to all. Register now!

WCAI to Hold a Webinar on ‘AM Radio: Traps and Promises in Broadband Deployment’

Although they are a hundred years and a thousand megahertz apart, broadband wireless systems and AM broadcast have a curious and important relationship.

WCAI will hold a free webinar this week to explore the characteristics of AM transmission, how the AM transmission towers and wireless towers become interactive, and how they can coexist. These interactions can trigger FCC regulatory consequences for wireless operators but can also lead to antenna siting benefits.

The webinar will address the three means of achieving AM – wireless coexistence: distance, detuning, and collocation. You will learn how to site new wireless antennas to avoid prohibited impacts on AM station and how to cost-effectively remediate these impacts if they are unavoidable, while maintaining FCC compliance. Furthermore, you will learn how wireless antennas can actually be located on “hot” AM towers, eliminating compliance problems while gaining rapid access to new and economic tower facilities.

Your presenter will be Lawrence Behr, CEO of the LBA Group, Inc. Lawrence is Chairman of the WCAI AM Subcommittee and has over 50 years of experience spanning the AM and wireless generations.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, June 16 at 4pm ET. Register now!
